Chromosome number of <i>Carex brevispicula</i> (Cyperaceae), a sedge endemic to Korea

چکیده

<i>Carex brevispicula</i> (Cyperaceae) is endemic to Korea and characterized by constricted achenes, short lateral spikes, awned staminate pistillate scales. The species classified in sect. <i>Mitratae</i> occurs throughout South Korea, perennating on mountains and/or rocky slopes under half shadow conditions. Meiotic chromosomes of the were examined this study, which 33 meiotic cells from seven populations found be less than 2 μm long with non-constricted (<i>n</i> = 34II). stable chromosome number may related narrow geographical distribution distinct achene morphology. Further investigations distribution, morphological character variation, characteristics should conducted closely taxa understand derivation its endemism Korea.

Microsatellite primers for the rare sedge Lepidosperma bungalbin (Cyperaceae)1

PREMISE OF THE STUDY Microsatellite markers were developed for the rare sedge Lepidosperma bungalbin (Cyperaceae) to assess genetic variation and its spatial structuring. METHODS AND RESULTS We conducted shotgun sequencing on an Illumina MiSeq and produced 6,215,872 sequence reads. The QDD pipeline was used to design 60 primer pairs that were screened using PCR. We developed 17 loci, of which...

Characterization and cross application of novel microsatellite markers for a rare sedge, Lepidosperma gibsonii (Cyperaceae).

PREMISE OF THE STUDY Ten polymorphic microsatellite loci for the rare sword sedge Lepidosperma gibsonii (Cyperaceae) were characterized for the future study of population structure, hybridization, and clonality. METHODS AND RESULTS Twenty samples from each of three populations were screened with the markers to assess genetic variation. Observed population heterozygosities ranged from 0.35 to ...

Chromosome reduction in Eleocharis maculosa (Cyperaceae).

Chromosome numbers in Cyperaceae lower than the typical basic number x = 5 have been described for only three species: Rhynchospora tenuis (n = 2), Fimbristylis umbellaris (n = 3) and Eleocharis subarticulata (n = 3). Eleocharis maculosa is recorded here as the fourth species of Cyperaceae that has a chromosome number lower than 2n = 10, with 2n = 8, 7 and 6. The karyotype differentiation in E....

Development and characterization of 11 microsatellite primers for the sedge Trichophorum planifolium (Cyperaceae)1

PREMISE OF THE STUDY Microsatellite loci were developed for Trichophorum planifolium (Cyperaceae), an endangered woodland sedge protected under federal and provincial legislation in Canada, to explore patterns of population genetic diversity and differentiation in the species. METHODS AND RESULTS Sixty-three primer pairs were evaluated for amplification consistency and screened for polymorphi...

Nonuniform processes of chromosome evolution in sedges (Carex: Cyperaceae).

Holocentric chromosomes-chromosomes that lack localized centromeres-occur in numerous unrelated clades of insects, flatworms, and angiosperms. Chromosome number changes in such organisms often result from fission and fusion events rather than polyploidy. In this study, I test the hypothesis that chromosome number evolves according to a uniform process in Carex section Ovales (Cyperaceae), the l...
